Wine Tasting Notes

Parley Lake Marquette has black cherry and vanilla aromas with a nice balance fruit nose. It has a soft finish, accented with a hint of smokiness. With seven months of oak-aging, this wine is ready to drink now through the next one to two years.

Food Pairing Notes

Parley Lake Marquette pairs beautifully with lamb, roast duck, NY Strip Steak and even blackened walleye. Goat cheese, brie, walnuts and Creme Brulee also pair well.

Grape Background

The Marquette grape was released as a new hybrid by the University of Minnesota to much fanfare in 2006. The grape is based on Pinot Noir and integrates with barrel aging very well. It can be made into a medium to more intense still red wine with a full spectrum of oak aging from light to long.

Wine Maker's Notes

We harvest our Marquette grapes on or around late September each year. The 2015 harvest saw us bring our grapes in off the vines between September 26-27. We de-stemmed, crushed and started fermentation with BM4x4 yeast. After 10 days of fermentation on the skins, the wine was pressed and racked twice before being racked into barrels between November and December 2015. This wine was aged in three barrels for 7 months, thus keeping the fruit of the grape intact.
